Animals looking for homes

The list below of EMOR animals looking for a loving new home is by no means exclusive and we receive new animals regularly, so if you would like to offer a home to an animal of a particular type, breed or personality please get in touch. We also work with other rescues from across the East Midlands and are always happy to put you in touch with other sanctuaries if we are not able to help.

For information on how to care for any of these animals and for our rehoming policy and procedures, please contact us by email at openrescue@live.co.uk

Pet of the month:

Each month we feature a special animal that is looking for a loving home

Picture
Snowdrop is a handsome male dwarf lop. He is around 6 years old and came into EMOR in June. Snowdrop has lived outdoors all of his life however we would like him to become a house rabbit with access to an outdoor run in nice weather, as due to his age he will no longer be suited to living outdoors this winter. Snowdrops foster family are gradually introducing him to being indoors and he is doing really well. Snowdrop has been well handled by both adults and children however due to his large size and the fact that he has not been neutered we wouldn't recommend him as a first pet. Snowdrop has been fully vaccinated and is in good health. Snowdrops previous owners had not spent much time with him, so he is looking for a home where he will be thoroughly spoilt and given all of the love and attention that he deserves. Rabbits can live for upto 10 years, so Snowdrop is looking for a retirement home where he can spend the rest of his life in bunny luxury.

Small animals:

We regularly get in hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs, all of whom will be looking for new homes. If you might be interested in offering one or more of these guys a new home, fostering a small animal, or you would like to find out what caring for any of these animals entails, please get in touch.

George is a handsome dwarf lop thought to be around two years old and he is looking for a very special home as he is blind in one eye. He has been examined by a vet and they are happy that this has no negative effect on his quality of life. Otherwise George is fit and healthy and from the way he leaps in and out of his cage you would think he was fully sighted! He is a friendly boy who loves cuddles and fuss and deserves to go a loving home after having such a poor start in life. George is looking for a home where he can live as a house rabbit (he is quite fond of sleeping on the sofa!) and that has no cats or dogs.

Rosie is a beautiful black Netherland dwarf. She is around a year old, is friendly and is an extremely intelligent girl. Rosie was living outdoors but has been moved inside as she needs the added stimulation of being able to watch what is going on around her. Rosie is very inquisitive and adventurous and is looking for a home that has lots of time to spend playing with her. Rosie will make a fantastic pet however she would be best suited to a family with children over ten, as she was teased by younger children in her last home. Rosie is fully vaccinated and has been spayed.

Reptiles:

We have recently taken in two very young tortoises, Miller, a sulcata and Amos, a leopard. In coming months Amos and Miller will be looking for long term loving homes. It is extremely important that these little guys go to the right homes as they require specialist care due to their current size and will grow very large in the future - leopards can reach 2ft in length and 40kilos when fully grown, while sulcatas can reach 3ft in length and 7stone! Fully grown these animals will require an extremely large, secure outdoor enclosure and a fully heated shed/barn, as well as suitable indoor accommodation for use in winter. If you would like to find out any more about the tortoises please send us an email and if you would like any information on tortoise care we would very much recommend visiting www.tortoisetrust.org

Invertebrates:

Arnold and Hilda are two Giant African Land Snails (GALS) that are looking for a home. They are able to go together or separately. Land snails can grow very large, however because of how they were kept before coming into EMOR, Arnold and Hilda won't get much bigger. They are believed to be around 2 years old and are very lively. Their ideal home is a large fishtank with a secure lid, set out with a shallow pool, plants and hidey holes. They need a deep soil substrate which enables them to dig down and control their body temperature, a process called thermoregulation. Snails are easy to keep and have a diet of fresh veg and fruit and cuttlefish. If you might be interested in offering Arnold and Hilda a home or you would like to find out more about caring for GALS, please get in touch.

Birds:

We often have small birds in that are looking for loving homes ideally within a small aviary. If you would be interested in adopting a small bird such as a budgie, canary or finch please get in touch.

Livestock:

At present, EMOR are only able to rescue farm animals when we have guaranteed homes waiting for them, so if you would be interested in offering a permanent, caring home to chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, cows or pigs etc., or if you might be able to help us by acting as a temporary foster home, please get in touch.
